Preschool & Kindergarten (3K – 5K) and Liturgy of the Word

Our preschool and Kindergarten program meets in the Parish Center on alternating Sundays from 10:15 to 11:30 am (or at the conclusion of the 9 am Mass). The children will take part in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd which is child-centered with activities that use many of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd materials.

The child, particularly the religious life of the child, is central to the interest and commitment of the Good Shepherd catechist. With this focus, the catechist embraces Maria Montessori’s vision of the human being and thus the attitude of the adult regarding the child. An integral part of the experience is an environment called the atrium, which aids in the development of religious life.

The atrium is a community in which children and adults live together in a religious experience which facilitates participation in the wider community of the family, the church and other social spheres. The atrium is a place of prayer, in which work and study spontaneously become meditation, contemplation and prayer.

Special Education
Every child at St. Teresa of Calcutta has a right to religious education in some form. If you would like to make arrangements for religious education for someone with special needs, please call the Christian Formation Office at 966-7010.

Liturgy of the Word

  • Liturgy of the Word is a worship experience geared toward children.  This experience resembles the one given to the larger community, but in a style that is not only interactive, but engaging by using vocabulary that is geared more towards them.  Celebrating Liturgy of the Word helps to empower our children by giving them a foundation of understanding and appreciating Scripture as well as building a greater appreciation for their liturgical heritage as Catholics.  Children will be invited up on specific dates to process together down to the JPII room in the basement of church during the Liturgy part of the Mass.  They will return to their families about the time the collection baskets are passed around to be with the entire congregation for Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Please see the dates below to know when your child can participate in this wonderful opportunity.
