Formation and Discipleship

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
The purpose of religious education is to enable students to reach their potential as individuals who are created in God’s image. As such, our program tries to assist and enhance what is being taught in the home and to provide religious direction for students so they can share their talents, and proclaim the message of Christ to others.

Our goal for the St. Teresa of Calcutta Christian Formation program is to promote the growth of each student’s sacred faith. We try to provide an experience of community that teaches, lives, sustains, and supports that faith in Christ. In our Christian Formation Program we try to nurture in our students:

  • An awareness of God in themselves and others
  • An appreciation of the meaning of the Sacraments and most important
a belief in the True Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist
  • The importance of the Sunday liturgy
  • A love for God’s Word and an understanding of Sacred Scripture
  • A formation of conscience and Catholic values that will foster Catholic living
  • A concept of a Catholic community, that spreads the message “Jesus lives” through service to others

SPECIAL EDUCATION

Every child at St. Teresa of Calcutta has a right to religious education in some form. If you would like to make arrangements for religious education for someone with special needs, please call the Christian Formation Office at 966-7010.

OUR COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING OUR FUTURE
The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is committed to maintaining safe environments for children to learn, pray, and grow. Their Safe Environment Office supports our parishes and schools and maintains the compliance of our archdiocese in our Promise to Protect, Pledge to Heal. We expect all of our clergy, staff and volunteers to be part our commitment to prevent abuse in our parishes, schools and communities. We do this through education, awareness and accountability.

Click here to access more information regarding the Safeguarding All God’s Family Training, which is mandatory for every priest, deacon, parish or school staff member, teacher and lay minister that is employed by a parish or school and any volunteer working with minors.

Liturgy of the Word

Liturgy of the Word is a worship experience geared toward children.  This experience resembles the one given to the larger community, but in a style that is not only interactive, but engaging by using vocabulary that is geared more towards them.  Celebrating Liturgy of the Word helps to empower our children by giving them a foundation of understanding and appreciating Scripture as well as building a greater appreciation for their liturgical heritage as Catholics.  Children will be invited up on specific dates to proceed together down to the JPII room in the basement of church during the Liturgy part of the Mass.  They will return to their families about the time the collection baskets are passed around to be with the entire congregation for Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Please see the dates below to know when your child can participate in this wonderful opportunity.
